Did you know once a child reaches third grade, their propensity for reading will affect their vocabulary and literacy the rest of their life? Through JA Super Readers, JA of Hammond promotes reading to third graders in a fun and interactive way.
Each year, the chapter visits the third grade class of the Hammond Rec Center After School Program and helps them become a "super reader" by coming up with their own superhero story! Members also read a book to the children and teach them about how to get a library card and use the library to check out books. Each child leaves with their own comic book story, a free book, and a superhero mask and cape in hand!
This year's service project will be held September 2019! Check our Facebook page for updates!
