During the weekend of August 12-14, 2016, South Louisiana was hit with torrential rainfall resulting in a flood impacting tens of thousands of families. Cities and towns which have never flooded before are now 90% or more under water- the aftermath is truly devastating for so many.
With the assistance from several other JA chapters, JA of Hammond was able to collect $7000 for Flood Relief efforts. With those funds, a collaboration started with the Laurent Squared Mission of the First United Methodist Church. Families who were ready to move in to their recovered homes were provided with "Room" boxes assembled by the ladies of Junior Auxiliary of Hammond. Boxes were assembled for the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Those families that lost everything were able to have one less room to worry about when moving back in! We will continue to work with this project as homes are recovered and families are ready to move back! |
